Mommyhood

My newest passion in life is being a mother to my adorable little man, Jack. He has made my days brighter and my life sweeter. Becoming a mother has also challenged me to become more educated about products available. Every person wants the best for their child. I have listed my "sweet list" of children's products that I have found to be the most helpful in this journey called parenthood. These are the things I love in no particular order...

1. Baby Bargains book by Denise & Alan Fields
This book is a helpful resource on all things baby, but it is a must have for first-time parents! It includes helpful advice on how to save 20% to 50% on everything for your baby. In fact, the last page of the book states, "if this book doesn't save you at least $250 off your baby expenses, we'll give you a complete refund on the cost of this book!" I love that this book includes reviews based on safety guidelines and parents' opinions. Plus, you will walk into a retail store feeling confident in your knowledge of the products and the salesperson will not take advantage of your emotional state. Baby Bargains will help you navigate the consumer maze that all parents face.

2. Aden + Anais products.
This product line was created by an Australian lady that couldn't find muslin swaddle blankets like the ones she remembered from home. Those available on the market were too small or too thick. Cotton muslin is one of the world's oldest, most cherished fabrics. It comforts in both hot and cold climates. These products are durable and become softer with use. I am in love with the burpy bibs and the bamboo muslin swaddle blankets. The burpy bib is just that, a burp cloth that can also snap around the neck as a bib. I use them all of the time and they have held up great. The muslin swaddle blankets are oh so soft and I wish that I had one to curl up with sometimes. They are breathable and seem very comfortable for the baby. I also found them easy to use, unlike some of the other swaddle blankets out there. I enjoy these products for their quality and the fun prints.

3. Kicky Pants Apparel
This line of apparel was created by a mother while she was on bedrest with her second child. She wanted clothing that was comfortable with a charming style. These bamboo basics are soft, eco-friendly and keep a child's skin comfortable. My little man loves the footed onesies and I have also purchased the two-piece pajama sets for when he is a little older. Although I love the style, he seems to love the softness. Check out the link below for retail locations.

4. Nap Nanny Chill
Another great product created by parents of a baby that liked to sleep at an incline. It is basically an infant recliner made of high-density foam. The washable cover is as soft as a baby blanket and is available in many colors. It is portable too!  I feel that it is safe, stable and comfortable. It has a harness feature that gives you some peace of mind if you have to hop in the shower, which all moms know is not the easiest thing to do sometimes. I don't leave my son in his for extended periods of time, but it does serve as an extra set of hands for me to complete a task like laundry or cook dinner.
5. Carousel Designs
This baby bedding company is top notch! I ordered sheets for my son and they are excellent quality and beautiful. This company has been in business for over 20 years and their products are all made in the United States. All products are made to order and the selection is fantastic. USA, USA, USA!
6. The Original Door Muff.
Why didn't I think of this? I'm sure all parents have tried to quietly sneak out of the room once their baby has FINALLY fallen asleep and as you shut the door, it happens...you wake up the baby! Well, this is such an innovative and helpful solution. The door muff is a simple design that holds the door shut without making any noise. It is custom made and comes in several different designs. It will have you asking yourself...why didn't I think of that!?!

7. Freddie the Firefly by Lamaze.
This friendly bug is my 5-month-old son's favorite toy! It features different textures, sounds and colors. It also includes clinking rings and teethers. It is high in contrast with a very colorful side, and a black & white side. Lamaze products are designed in conjunction with child development experts. The company makes it easy to choose products that are developmentally appropriate. I also like that their toys meet or exceed consumer safety regulations. I have introduced many developmental toys to my son and this is by far his favorite!
8. Episencial organic skincare products.
This skincare company develops all natural products for the entire family. Their products are a healthy and considered by many, a safe choice for you and the planet. I absolutely love their soothing cream and playful wash. Both contain natural and healthy ingredients. I use the soothing cream on my son's dry spots, but I also use it on my face. It is great on eczema, dry or bothered skin. The playful wash smells like a burst of fresh oranges and is very gentle on the skin. I am a big fan of these products and can't wait to try others in this line.
9. Ikea toys
I have shopped for many different items at Ikea, but lately I have been very impressed with their children's products. They are simple, but very effective. Did I mention that they are also very affordable too?  My son's favorite is the LEKA baby gym and it is under $25. Ikea believes in using the fewest resources to make the best possible products. Their children's products are required to meet particularly high quality and safety standards. With all of the technology out there, sometimes simplicity is a nice alternative.
10. Dreft Laundry Stain Remover.
This product was highly recommended to me by other mothers. I have not tried their detergent because it is out of my price range, but their stain remover is affordable and unbelievable. It has not failed me yet and I have seen some pretty major stains from my son. According to Dreft, it is the brand most recommended by pediatricians for it's gentle care. All I know is that it has saved many of my son's clothes from going straight to the trash!
